Module 6.0: De He Wilak (Coming Soon)
The UCD Land Acknowledgement Statement includes three Wintun Nations; Cachil DeHe Band of Wintun Indians of the Colusa Indian Community, Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation, and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. This module is generated by an often-asked question , “What are the stories of the Wintun De He Wilak?” For the past two years Prof. Tsinhnahjinnie has worked with Pam Gonzales, (Cachil Dehe Wintun Nation,) introducing UCD students to the Cache Creek Conservancy by meeting elders and allies from the community and listening to stories of land and people. Last year, we were asked to document the stories, initiating audio documentation with five elders, the facility manager, basket weavers, cultural carriers and allies. This module will enhance and expand documentation and support upgraded equipment to produce Broadcast quality videos (7-10 min.) with an introduction and six profiles. Graduate students will be involved with production and post production, collaborating with interviewees for content and final approvals. When completed, the video portraits will be presented at the UC Davis, CN Gorman Museum (Native American & Indigenous Museum.)
